The Shawshank Redemption
I personally liked the movie The Shawshank Redemption because it was all around a good film. The actors did a excellent job and made every performance in every scene believable. And that to me is what makes the movie. A movie can have the best theme, script, and story to it, but if the actors don't do a good job and make it beliveable then it all just crumbles around itself. But on top of the acting was a great theme for the movie. The theme was not just one thing. Everyone can get a differnt message from the film. I got the message that you have to take what life gives you, but don't surrneder to misfortune. Andy was innocent but still served his time in Shawshank peacefully. But he still didn't let Shawshank get the best of him and he eventually broke out and made it to his dreams.
Casablanca
The movie Casablanca was one of my favorites. My favorite part of the film was the characters. Rick was a smart whitted salon owner. He knew who he had to know, and had no direct enemys. This lack of enemys made the antagonist of the film, the love that he had for Ilsa. He didn't want to let her go to America and he didn't want to watch her run off with Victor. But he beat his temptation to run off with her to America and helped the underground leader go with the one thing that completes them both. The thing that made the characters so enjoyable was the complexity. Rick was by far the most complex character. He changes many times throughout the film, and that can cause you to get lost along the film but if you really pay attention to the movie then you will feel like you are right there with him. Overall the film was one of my favorites and is a classic that everyone should watch.
The Graduate
To me the film The Graduate was a movie with a great message, but it didn't have the story to portray that message. It could have been done better and not so repetative with the same song and the same film sequence. The typically unorthodox movie was very predictable and didn't suprise me one bit but it was this way that I could predict it that made me like this film. Everything happened that I wanted to happen and that I would want to happen myself. But I would not want my own story to be so repetative. I would want to have something more than a search, fail, search kinda life.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail The film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, directed by Terry Gillam and Terry Jones is a funny movie for someone who just wants to relax and laugh. Because thats what the movie does to you. It is a funny depiction of a classic tale of King Arthur and his quest to find the Holy Grail. But the directors and all of the actors, no matter how minor their role, put their own spin on it making it even more entertaining then expected. The actors perform all of their roles very well, and just make it pop out of the screen and hits you right in the funny bone. Their is not much use of special effects in the film, but the costumes are very believable so that makes everything seem as real as the creators want. The soundtrack in this film fits the film very well. it goes along with the whole medieval time period and their is no pointless use of the music in the film so that is all around good. The setting of the film was right on target. The makers often used real castles as the backdrop and sometimes went inside for a few scenes. The authentic settings made you think that you were really there, and put a whole new spin on the movie at one point or another. Monty Python and the Holy Grail did not have much to it that would make it a especially good or bad movie, it lacked a real plot and story behind it, but it is the simplicity that makes it such a good movie to watch when you have nothing better to do. So if you are bored and have some time to kill I would recommend this movie to you, but if you are looking for something that will change your life, or give you some insight then stay far far away from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
